Everyone's focused on the new shiny platform. No one wants to talk about the liability you're leaving behind.
The "archive" button is usually a trap. Ask these questions first:
* Is the export a true log, or just a sanitized "activity" report? Timestamps, full raw prompts, model responses, user IDs all intact?
* Where does this archive live? If it's in the old vendor's system, what's the ongoing storage fee? They never delete your data for free.
* Can you actually *find* anything later? If you need to pull a specific conversation for an audit in two years, is that a $500 "compliance retrieval" service call?
I migrated our team last quarter. The vendor's "compliant export" was missing metadata critical for our regulators. We had to run parallel systems for 90 days to capture everything via API, which they charged us for. The cutover was the easy part.
