Hi everyone. Our team recently completed a six-month evaluation of both Linear and Shortcut (formerly Clubhouse) after migrating from Jira. We’re a 10-person engineering team focused on B2B SaaS, and I wanted to share a grounded, practical comparison from our experience, especially around the migration and adoption phase.
The biggest pro for **Linear** was its sheer speed and developer-centric flow. The keyboard shortcuts and minimal interface reduced friction dramatically for engineers writing and updating tickets. It felt built for momentum. However, this focus was also a con: our product and design teams found it a bit too sparse. Linking initiatives and tracking broader epics felt less intuitive than we’d hoped. The migration of our history was clean, but we had to be very disciplined about our new workflow from day one.
For **Shortcut**, the major advantage was its flexibility and clarity for cross-functional work. The story types, workflow states, and epic hierarchy mirrored how our product team thinks. Getting buy-in from non-engineering roles was much easier. The con was that it could feel a tad more "process-heavy" for engineers craving pure speed. The cutover required more upfront configuration to map our old Jira states, but preserving context and history was very straightforward.
In the end, we chose Shortcut. The deciding factor was that it better supported the collaborative nature of our whole product team, even if it meant a small trade-off in pure engineering velocity. For a team that’s purely engineering-focused, Linear would be compelling. For us, alignment was the higher priority. I’m curious—has anyone else made a similar choice?
