Switched from Claw to a simpler tool. Our team's morale improved immediately.

Let me start with the one metric I never thought would move: our weekly team happiness score in 15Five. It jumped 22% in the two weeks after we turned off Claw. That, more than any ROI calculation, told me everything I needed to know.

We’d been on Claw for about 18 months, lured in by the promise of a “unified customer data platform” that could handle our complex marketing attribution, sync bi-directionally with our CRM (Salesforce), and power our customer segmentation. On paper, it was perfect. In practice, it became the single largest source of friction in our day-to-day operations.

Here’s what failed, specifically:

* **The “Black Box” Data Transformations:** Any mapping or logic beyond a simple field pass-through required their “Logic Engine.” We’d submit a request (e.g., “If the lead source is webinar, add tag ‘Tier 1’”), and wait 24-48 hours for their team to implement it. We lost all agility. A simple marketing test could be over by the time the segmentation was built.
* **Unreliable Syncs with No Clear Ownership:** We’d regularly find records stuck in a “syncing” state for days. Debugging meant opening a ticket, providing logs, and waiting. Their support would often say it was an “upstream API issue” from Salesforce or our ad platform, but we could connect those tools directly to other services without problem. The blame game was exhausting.
* **Hidden Complexity Costs:** The vendor said, “Your team can manage it.” The reality was we needed a dedicated, mid-level engineer just to babysit the pipelines, troubleshoot failures, and liaise with Claw support. That’s a huge, unplanned resource drain.

The breaking point was a major campaign where our lead scoring wasn’t updating. Claw support’s response was, “The job is running, there are no errors.” But the data was stale. We missed a critical follow-up window.

**What we switched to:** We broke the monolith into pieces. We moved our core CRM sync to a dedicated, simpler iPaaS (I won’t name it here to avoid sounding promotional), used native integrations for our email platform, and for the complex attribution logic, we built a single-purpose Cloud Function. Total setup time was less than the last major Claw ticket we resolved.

**What actually happened:** Morale improved because:
* Ownership became clear. We knew which tool or piece of code was responsible for what.
* We could fix things *now*. No more waiting for a third-party support ticket.
* Our costs became predictable, and surprisingly, the sum of the simpler tools was less than Claw’s enterprise fee.

**Would I renew?** Absolutely not. The lesson for me was that a tool promising to “do everything” often creates a critical point of failure and removes your team’s agency. Sometimes, a few well-connected, simple tools are far more robust and empowering than a single, complicated “platform.”

Has anyone else had a similar experience with all-in-one platforms versus a best-of-breed, simpler stack? I’d love to compare notes, especially on maintaining data consistency across multiple points of sync.
