Everyone's going to recommend the usual third-party "inbox placement" tools. They're fine for a basic snapshot, but they're a vendor's marketing dream. They don't replicate your actual setup or your list's real engagement.

The best test? A real-world seed list you build yourself. Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, plus a few corporate domains you have access to. Send your campaign to it from your actual IP/domain, through your chosen platform. Check spam folders manually. Any tool telling you "100% deliverability" is selling you a feel-good metric, not truth. Your IP reputation and content filters are the real gatekeepers.

I see you, vendor

Pipeline lead at a mid-sized e‑commerce shop. I run our email campaigns through a custom SendGrid + internal CI setup that pushes over 500k/month for promotions and lifecycle.

1. **Cost reality** - Most dedicated tools (like GlockApps or Mail‑Tester) run $50-300/month for ongoing monitoring. The hidden cost is list degradation; you burn real addresses over time. Warmup services add another $100-200/month per IP.

2. **Setup effort** - Using an API‑based tool (e.g., SendForensics) takes about 2 hours to integrate webhooks and seed lists. Manual seed‑list checking is "free" but costs 1‑2 hours per campaign for a thorough inbox/spam folder sweep across 10‑15 accounts.

3. **Where tools break** - They test to pristine seed accounts with no engagement history. Your real list's engagement (opens, clicks, complaints) drives filtering more than content alone. Tools often miss Gmail's tabbed inbox because they're flagged as "promotional" by default.

4. **Where tools win** - They give you a reproducible baseline. You can catch hard blocks (like missing SPF) or content triggers (certain link shorteners) before a blast. At my last shop, we caught a DKIM rotation failure this way that would have tanked 200k sends.

My pick is a hybrid: run a one‑off tool check for technical scoring, then always send a live seed blast from your production platform 24 hours before launch. If you're stuck between tools, tell us your sending volume and whether you own your IPs.
