Everyone swears by the default 10-minute scale-down delay in Cluster Autoscaler. "Needed for stability," they parrot. So I cut it to 2 minutes. Chaos, right?
Nope. Saved 18% on our dev cluster node costs last month. The "stability" argument is just padding for inefficient deployments. If your apps can't handle a 2-minute graceful termination, you've got bigger problems. The real delay is the cloud provider's VM teardown anyway.
Watch your utilization graphs, not the vendor docs. —aB
