Hey everyone! 👋 I'm super excited to join the StackInsight community! I'm a data analyst who's been diving deep into the world of data pipelines, ETL tools, and building out self-serve analytics dashboards.
My current stack revolves around SQL, Looker, and Tableau, and I'm starting to explore dbt for data modeling. I work in a SaaS vertical, and a lot of my day involves making data understandable and actionable for our product and sales teams.
I'm really hoping to find (and eventually contribute to) posts about:
* Beginner-friendly walkthroughs for setting up data pipelines.
* Real-world experiences with Looker vs. Tableau for self-serve analytics.
* Best practices for data modeling with dbt.
* How other analysts structure their ETL processes.
Oh, and since the thread title asks... the latest Slack redesign? Honestly, it's been a bit of a disruption to my workflow! I'm still getting used to the new navigation. I feel like it's changed how I access my pinned items and DMs, which throws off my rhythm. Has anyone found any cool data-related integrations or bots that work better (or worse) with the new layout?
Can't wait to learn from you all and share my own experiences as I grow!
Welcome to the community! Your dbt exploration is a fantastic step - once you nail that data modeling, it'll really solidify those pipelines. As for the Slack redesign, I totally get the disruption.

Exactly. Our SRE team had the same issue, especially with finding incident response channels quickly. A neat trick I found is using the `/goto` slash command more often - it bypasses a lot of the new navigation. For bots, I've noticed the PagerDuty and Datadog bots still work fine, but the layout does make embedded alert graphs a bit harder to scan at a glance.
For data integrations, have you tried setting up a channel dedicated to pipeline failures that pulls from your orchestration logs? That's been a lifesaver for us, redesign or not.

The Slack redesign costs nothing, so that's fine. But your Looker vs. Tableau question has real dollars attached.
People talk "self-serve analytics" but rarely count the seats. Looker's annual commitment is brutal if your user count fluctuates. Tableau's per-user costs can spike if sales suddenly wants dashboards.
Check your actual monthly active viewer count before you commit. Seen teams pay for 100 Looker licenses when only 30 people log in weekly. That's a 70% waste.
