Been down this road. Everyone’s obsessed with "real-time" controls, but most tools are just slapping notifications on top of a credit card. For a distributed sales team, the real question is: can you actually stop overspending *before* it happens, or just yell about it after?
Nav’s controls feel like they were built by someone who’s met a salesperson. Granular merchant category blocks, location-based limits, even time-of-day rules. Ramp’s "real-time" is mostly about declining transactions *after* they violate a policy you set—useful, but reactive.
My take:
- **Nav**: Proactive blocking. You can kill T&E at casinos or 3 AM bar tabs. Sync is fast, but their reporting is clunky.
- **Ramp**: Better overall platform, but spend controls are about alerts and reimbursements, not hard stops.
If your sales team treats corporate cards like free money, you need Nav. If you trust them to follow policy and just want visibility, Ramp’s fine.
