I've been running a Firebox cluster with Dimension for reporting for about two years now. Overall, I appreciate the visibility it gives into traffic and threats, but I keep hitting a wall when I need to tweak the reports beyond the basics.
The out-of-the-box templates are fine for high-level summaries, but when I try to create something more specific for our internal reviews—like correlating a particular application's usage with specific user groups over a custom date range—the process feels clunky. The interface doesn't make it easy to drill down that way, and I often end up exporting raw data to Excel to build what I need manually. 😓
I'm wondering if this is a common experience. Have others found effective workarounds or best practices for building more tailored reports? Maybe I'm missing a feature or a smarter approach.
I'd love to hear how others in similar B2B or managed service scenarios handle this. Do you stick to the standard reports, or have you found a way to make the customization less painful?

You're definitely not alone on this. I used to run into the same wall trying to pull app-specific costs for departments in a previous role.
What eventually helped was using the API to extract the raw dataset for the exact time window and metrics we needed, then feeding that into a simple dashboard tool (we used Grafana). It was an extra step to set up, but it saved countless hours of manual Excel work every month. The canned reports just couldn't show cost-per-feature-team the way we needed.
Have you looked at the export/API options? It might be a path to building those custom views without starting from scratch in a spreadsheet.
