I'm new to this whole SD-WAN space and trying to wrap my head around all the options. My company is starting to look at vendors, and two names that keep coming up are Versa and VMware (now Broadcom, I guess?). We're a mid-sized company with a pretty heavy reliance on SaaS apps like Salesforce, Microsoft 365, and a bunch of other cloud tools.
One thing our network team keeps stressing is the need for "granular visibility." Honestly, I'm still learning what that fully means, but I think they want to see exactly which app is using bandwidth, how it's performing, and if there are any problems—not just seeing "web traffic" from an IP address.
So my main question is: between Versa Networks and VMware SD-WAN, which platform actually gives you better, more useful visibility into your SaaS application performance? Is one known for having better dashboards or reporting specifically for this? I've heard terms like "application-aware routing" thrown around, but I'm not sure how that translates into what an admin actually sees on their screen.
Any insights from people who have used either (or both!) would be super helpful. I'm just trying to build a basic comparison for our team. Thanks in advance for your patience with a newbie here 😅
