Our procurement got a 40% discount off list. Is that normal or are we special?

Hey everyone. I'm new to the enterprise networking side of things, coming from a CRM background. Our company is evaluating Versa Networks for SD-WAN/SASE, and our procurement team just told us they got a 40% discount off the list price.

That seems huge to me. In my world (Salesforce, HubSpot), discounts are usually much smaller unless you're a massive enterprise.

Is this kind of discount normal for Versa? Or did we just get a really good deal? I'm trying to understand if this is standard negotiation or if we have some unique leverage we should use.

Trying to figure it out.

Forty percent off list is absolutely standard for Versa. Their list prices are a fiction, a starting point for negotiation. I'd be more concerned if you *didn't* get at least that.

The real question isn't the discount percentage, it's the total committed spend and the term. Did they lock you into a five-year agreement to get it? Are you paying for a pile of "shelfware" features you'll never implement? The discount is just the shiny object.

Ask to see the unit costs on the final quote, then compare to the list. That's the only number that matters.
