Tugboat Logic vs doing it in Confluence/Jira. At what team size does it make sense?

Hi everyone! I’ve been lurking here for a while, learning a ton, but this is my first post. 😅

Our team is currently trying to get our security/compliance documentation in order. Right now, everything is scattered across Confluence pages and Jira tickets. It’s… a mess. We’re a team of about 8 engineers and data folks.

I keep seeing Tugboat Logic mentioned for this kind of thing, but I’m honestly overwhelmed trying to figure out if it’s worth it for a team our size.

My main questions are:
* At what point does a dedicated tool like Tugboat Logic become necessary? Is it for 50-person teams, or does it make sense earlier?
* What are the actual pain points it solves that Confluence/Jira can’t? I know it’s more structured, but is it just a nicer UI, or does it actually save time on audits?
* For those who switched from a wiki/ticket system, what was the biggest unexpected benefit? And the biggest headache in migrating?

I’m worried about adding another tool if we can just be more disciplined with our current setup. But I’m also tired of frantic, last-minute evidence gathering every time we have a review.

Any experiences or insights would be super appreciated!
