Alright, let’s see if we can have a real talk about Trend Micro’s Cloud One — specifically their Workload Security / vulnerability scanning piece.
Made the jump from Qualys last quarter, mostly because their licensing model felt like a hostage situation and support tickets went into a black hole. On that front, Cloud One is indeed an improvement: actual human responses within a day, and they seem to know their product.
But here’s the rub that their sales deck didn’t mention: scan performance is noticeably slower across our hybrid environment. We’re talking:
* Agent-based scans on standard Azure VMs taking 35-40% longer to complete a full assessment than Qualys did.
* The cloud connector for container registries (ACR) adds a frustrating latency before results even appear in the console.
* Their “optimized” scan policies feel like a black box — tweaking them barely moves the needle.
So we traded one set of problems for another. The support is better, but the core function — finding vulnerabilities quickly — is lagging. This impacts our patching cycles.
Has anyone else run into this? Did you just eat the cost of more compute to compensate, or found some magic tuning knob they don’t advertise?
Or is this just the classic vendor play: fix the superficial pain point (support) while the engine under the hood is less efficient, hoping you’ll prioritize comfort over capability?
