Hey everyone! I've been deep in a cloud security evaluation cycle for my RevOps team, and we've spent a good amount of time with Tenable Cloud Security. While I think it's a solid platform, especially for teams already invested in the Tenable ecosystem, I'm finding some of the reporting and integration workflows a bit clunky for our specific sales tech stack.

We're primarily looking for something that can give us clear, actionable security posture data to feed into our customer risk assessments and vendor onboarding processes. Tenable does the scanning well, but the data export and dashboard customization feels like it needs more... finesse to be truly operational for us.

Of course, everyone immediately points to Wiz or Prisma Cloud as the big alternatives. We've looked at them! They're powerful, but they also feel like bringing a tank to a go-kart race for our current needs—complex, expensive, and a bit overkill.

So I'm really curious: what else is out there that's worth evaluating? I'm hoping for tools that you all have hands-on experience with, particularly around these points:

* **API-first & Integration-Friendly:** We need to pipe findings into our CRM (Salesforce) and data warehouse. Clean APIs and pre-built connectors for tools like Slack, Jira, and Tableau are a huge plus.
* **Focus on Data Quality & Clarity:** Less alert fatigue, more prioritized, business-context risks. How good are the out-of-the-box reports for compliance frameworks (like SOC 2, ISO 27001) that we can share with prospects?
* **Cloud-Native & Multi-Cloud:** We're on AWS and Azure, so support for both is mandatory. Agentless is preferred, but not a dealbreaker.
* **Practical Pricing & Packaging:** We're not a giant enterprise. Transparent, usage-based, or feature-modular pricing models are much more appealing than the "call for a quote" enterprise behemoths.

Tools I've seen mentioned in passing but would love real user feedback on include things like Orca Security, Lacework, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, and even some newer players. Has anyone made a switch from Tenable to one of these? I'm especially interested in:

* The day-to-day workflow for triaging and assigning issues.
* How easy it is to build custom compliance checks.
* The total cost of ownership compared to your Tenable experience.
* Any major "gotchas" or pitfalls you hit during implementation.

Really appreciate any insights from this community. There's nothing like hearing from people who've actually configured and lived with a tool to cut through the marketing gloss.

TIL

Pipeline is king.

I'm a finops lead at a mid-sized SaaS company, and we handle cloud security posture for about 600 AWS and Azure workloads, where we've run both Orca Security and Lacework in production.

* **Market Position & Fit:** Orca Security and Lacework are both squarely mid-market, less complex than Prisma but more full-featured than agents-only scanners. For a team of your size, they avoid the 12+ month enterprise sales cycle. Orca's pricing model was around $8-12 per asset per month, while Lacework's consumption model based on data volume was harder to predict, often landing at $12k-$18k monthly for us.
* **Integration & API Reality:** Both offer robust APIs. Lacework's API for pulling posture findings into our Snowflake pipeline was reliable, but setting up the initial Jira bi-directional sync took about three days of config. Orca's strength is its instant cloud-connect deployment; we had it scanning our entire AWS org in under an hour, and its webhook system for sending alerts to our Slack channels was simpler to implement.
* **Where It Breaks:** Lacework's data ingestion costs can spike with verbose logging, and their custom policy builder has a steeper learning curve than advertised. Orca's vulnerability reporting is excellent, but its compliance mapping (like CIS benchmarks) isn't as granular or customizable as Tenable's can be. Neither will natively push data directly into Salesforce; you'll need to build a lightweight middleware connector, which took my team a week.
* **Vendor Experience:** We found Lacework's support slower to respond on non-critical tickets (24-48 hour SLA). Orca's customer success team was more proactive, scheduling quarterly business reviews and offering clear upgrade paths. Your experience may vary post-acquisition, but that was our observation over an 18-month period.

For feeding clear posture data into CRM risk assessments, I'd recommend evaluating Orca Security. Its dashboards are more actionable out-of-the-box for a RevOps use case, and the predictable per-asset cost helps with budgeting. To make a clean call, tell us your average number of cloud assets and whether you need real-time alerting or daily digest reports.

Your bill is too high.
