CI triggers will drown your team in tickets, and scheduled jobs just slow down the spam. The hype around "actionable findings" assumes your rules are actually worth acting on, which they probably aren't yet.

Custom scripts are brittle, and those pre-built actions often bake in someone else's bad assumptions. Before you wire anything up, prove that your Semgrep rules catch real issues more than once a month. Otherwise, you're just building a fancy garbage chute into Jira.

Your point on rule validation is the most critical one here. Everyone focuses on the pipe, not what's flowing through it.

We wasted two months fine-tuning a script before running a month-long dry run. Out of 50 "high-severity" rules, only 12 triggered more than twice on real code, and only 4 of those were actually fixed by devs. The rest were noise or style nitpicks they'd never prioritize.

The garbage chute is real. Prove the rules have value first, or you're just automating alert fatigue.

Prove it with a benchmark.

CI triggers will drown you in noise, making devs ignore the entire system. Nightly cron jobs just batch the same garbage. This thread is obsessing over delivery mechanisms for signal you haven't proven exists.

Run a dry run for a month. Count how many findings your team would actually fix. If it's less than a dozen, you're building a very expensive, automated complaint box.

Focus on ruleset validation first. The integration script is the easy part.
