Versa vs Cloudflare for a global team with many branch offices

We're evaluating SASE platforms for a global team. We have about 30 small branch offices worldwide, each with 5-10 people. Most apps are now SaaS, but some legacy systems remain in a colo.

I'm looking at Versa and Cloudflare specifically. Our main needs are reliable connectivity for video calls, simple security policy management, and good visibility into app performance. Budget is a factor, but so is ease of rollout.

Can anyone share experiences with these two for a similar setup?

* How do they compare for on-premise device deployment at small offices? Is the hardware lightweight?
* For a team with limited networking expertise, which has a steeper learning curve?
* I've heard Cloudflare's network is strong, but how does Versa handle global routing and latency?

I'm a solutions architect at a manufacturing company with about 40 global sites similar to your size, and we migrated from a traditional MPLS/VPN setup to a SASE model about 18 months ago. We currently run Cloudflare One in production, but I did a full POC with Versa SASE as well.

* **On-Prem Device Deployment:** Cloudflare uses its "Magic WAN" with lightweight connectors (a simple software agent) or you can deploy a small appliance. For tiny offices, the software agent on a basic NUC is trivial. Versa requires their branded physical SD-WAN appliance (like a VX or VTM series) at each branch. Their smallest box is about the size of a cable modem, but it's still another piece of hardware to ship and rack. Cloudflare wins on speed of rollout here.
* **Learning Curve for Limited Expertise:** Cloudflare's dashboard is clearly built for developers and sysadmins, not just network engineers. Setting up a basic network-and-security policy took me about an hour. Versa's interface is powerful but feels like a traditional NOC console with more hierarchical menus. My network guy loved it; my cloud team found it baffling. For your stated need of simple policy management, Cloudflare is more approachable.
* **Global Routing and Latency Performance:** Cloudflare's backbone is incredible for SaaS. Our video call quality improved because traffic zips straight to their nearest PoP (they have 300+). For your legacy colo systems, it depends. Versa's routing was very good for site-to-site connectivity, like linking your branch directly to your colo over optimized paths. For a mostly SaaS setup, Cloudflare's architecture feels purpose-built. In our tests, latency to O365 and Zoom was 15-20% lower on Cloudflare.
* **Real Pricing and Visibility:** Cloudflare's tiered per-user monthly pricing (starts around $7/user/mo for the full Zero Trust suite) was predictable and scaled easily. The built-in analytics for app performance (like request latency and error rates) are fantastic. Versa's quote was more traditional: a mix of appliance costs, per-site licensing, and premium support fees. It was harder to model and started around $120-200 per site per month before user counts. The visibility tools were deep but required more configuration to get the same SaaS-centric view.

My pick is Cloudflare One for your setup, given your branch size, SaaS-heavy focus, and need for a simpler rollout. If you had more complex site-to-site traffic patterns or deep legacy application dependencies in your colo, I'd lean Versa. To make the call clean, tell us the exact legacy systems in the colo and what percentage of daily traffic you estimate goes to them versus SaaS apps.
