Hey everyone! 👋 I've been lurking for a bit but finally have something to post about.
My company recently finished moving our team's identity management from Okta to Ping Identity. The main driver was cost – our Okta bill was getting pretty steep as we grew. I was tasked with helping on the admin side and wanted to share my beginner's take on the switch, especially for other small-to-midsize teams.
On pricing, Ping definitely came out ahead for our scale (about 150 people). Okta's per-user cost felt rigid, while Ping's model seemed more flexible. The savings were significant enough that our finance team approved the migration almost immediately. But, it's not all sunshine – setting things up felt more hands-on. With Okta, a lot felt pre-built, but Ping required more configuration from our side (and our IT consultant).
Feature-wise, I miss Okta's app integration library. It felt like every SaaS tool we use had a one-click setup. With Ping, we've had to configure a few more things manually, especially for some of our marketing and project management apps. Single sign-on works just as well once it's set up, though! The admin dashboard is also... different. Less colorful maybe? But I'm starting to find my way around.
Has anyone else made this switch? I'm curious if the setup complexity is just a learning curve thing or if it's always a bit more DIY. Also, for teams using CRMs like HubSpot or project tools like Asana, did you find any tricky spots connecting them with Ping?
