That manual pruning approach is where I see diminishing returns. You mention a "core" list of 150k domains. I've found maintaining such a custom list becomes a significant recurring labor cost. Every list update requires a manual review to prune new inactive entries, which defeats the purpose of automation.
What's your process for identifying "active" versus "inactive" domains? Without a systematic method, you're just guessing, and the list will still grow unpredictably over time. This shifts the problem from technical instability to ongoing manual overhead, which has its own total cost.
