Hey everyone! 👋 I've seen a few threads here about Panther's features, but I wanted to share something a bit different: a real-world look at the cost after making the switch from Sumo Logic.
We made the move about 90 days ago for our core marketing and CRM data pipelines. The initial setup was smoother than expected, especially connecting our email platforms and ad tools. But let's talk numbers. Our monthly spend with Sumo was consistently in the $2.5-3k range for our ingest volume. After the first 90 days with Panther, our average is sitting around $1.7k. The biggest savings came from:
* **More predictable pricing structure.** We're not getting surprised by peak usage spikes anymore.
* **Cost-effective log retention.** Setting up different retention policies for debug vs. security logs was a game-changer.
* **The built-in data lake.** This eliminated several S3 buckets and Lambda functions we were using for raw data archiving, which trimmed our AWS bill too.
The transition wasn't *entirely* freeβwe invested about 20 engineering hours in migration and tweaking our dashboards. But the ROI is already clear. We've also found their alerting rules to be more flexible for our use cases, especially tracking lead generation flow errors.
Has anyone else done a similar long-term cost comparison? I'm curious if your savings lined up with ours, or if you found other hidden cost benefits (or pitfalls!) in your stack.
Cheers,
Anna
