Hi everyone, I'm helping a small healthcare clinic modernize their network security. They need to be fully HIPAA compliant. I'm new to enterprise firewalls and the choice is overwhelming.
I'm looking at FortiGate and Palo Alto NGFW. For a clinic with maybe 50 users, which platform is more straightforward to manage for someone without deep security expertise? I've heard Palo Alto has great visibility, but FortiGate might be more cost-effective. Any real-world experience on which one handles the specific logging and access controls needed for HIPAA more easily?

For a 50-user clinic, FortiGate's cost advantage is real and the management console is pretty intuitive for someone getting started. Palo's visibility is excellent, but the learning curve and price tag can be steep.
On the HIPAA logging specifically, both will do the job. FortiGate's built-in reporting and HIPAA compliance checklists might get you there a bit faster with less configuration. Just make sure you're sending those logs to a separate SIEM or syslog server for retention, which is a requirement. The firewall's own storage won't cut it.
If you go Fortinet, budget for their premium support. You'll want that safety net. Good luck
