Hi everyone. I've been lurking here for a while during our evaluation phase, and now that we're 90 days post-deployment, I wanted to share our experience. We're a fully remote B2B SaaS company, and we rolled out Okta to our 100-person team, consolidating a messy mix of Google Workspace logins, a separate HRIS, and a handful of other tools.
The first 45 days were... a project. The initial setup and universal directory sync required more IT time than we'd budgeted. Getting the group mappings right for our engineering, sales, and customer success teams took some iteration. That said, the tipping point came around day 60. Once the automated provisioning (especially for new hires and departures) kicked in, the help desk tickets for access issues dropped dramatically. The single sign-on experience is now a genuine win for user experience.
A few specific observations from our rollout:
* **The cost conversation is real.** It's a significant line item, and we had to justify it based on security hardening and long-term IT efficiency, not just user convenience.
* **MFA adoption was smoother than expected.** We used Okta Verify with a mix of push notifications and biometrics. The few hiccups came from people who'd never used an authenticator app before, but quick 1:1 screenshares solved it.
* **Our biggest "aha" was with lifecycle management.** Having a single source of truth for deprovisioning has been a security game-changer. When someone leaves, we're confident their access is revoked everywhere within minutes.
I'm curious—for other teams of similar size and remote nature, what workflows or integrations delivered the most unexpected value for you? And were there any particular "gotchas" in the policy configurations that took you a while to smooth out?
