Hey folks! I’ve been knee-deep in setting up Microsoft Sentinel for our e-commerce platform’s security monitoring, and it’s been a game-changer for our cloud workloads and user analytics. But I keep wondering—could it handle something as specialized as IoT security in a manufacturing environment?

We’ve got a client in the manufacturing space who’s exploring Sentinel for their plant. They’ve got hundreds of sensors, PLCs, and industrial control systems churning out data. The big question is whether Sentinel’s built-in connectors and analytics can actually make sense of OT (operational technology) data alongside their regular IT logs. I’ve seen it excel with Azure-native services and Office 365, but IoT feels like a different beast.

Has anyone here actually deployed Sentinel specifically for plant floor IoT security? I’m curious about:
- How well it integrates with industrial protocols (like OPC UA or Modbus) or if you need a bunch of middleware.
- Whether the out-of-the-box detection rules are relevant for things like abnormal machine behavior or unauthorized access to control systems.
- What the learning curve was like for the security team, especially if they’re more used to traditional OT monitoring tools.

I’d love to hear your war stories or wins—especially around cost versus value. Manufacturing can be so sensitive to downtime, so getting this right feels huge!

happy building
