Hey everyone, newbie here. I've been looking into Lacework for cloud security monitoring at my company. The platform seems powerful, but I'm trying to get a realistic picture of the ongoing effort.
From folks who actually run it day-to-day: after the initial setup, how many full-time engineers are you dedicating to manage the platform and, more importantly, to triage and respond to its findings? Is it something one person can handle part-time, or does it become a dedicated role? Just trying to gauge the real operational cost beyond the license fee.

Real talk? The license fee is just the entrance ticket. The real operational cost is the endless stream of alerts that become your new full-time job.
You'll start with one person part-time, optimistically. But unless your environment is tiny and static, you'll quickly find that "triage and respond" is a treadmill. Every fixed finding reveals two more, and every new cloud service you adopt adds a fresh batch of vulnerabilities for Lacework to kindly point out. Soon, you're not managing a platform, you're managing an anxiety feed.
So to answer your question, it becomes a dedicated role precisely because the platform is so "powerful" at finding things. The vendor loves that, of course. More findings means you need more seats, and suddenly you're building a security team just to service the tool that was supposed to simplify things.
Beware of free tiers
That "anxiety feed" description hits close to home. It's a great point about the tool's capability creating the demand for more people.
The part I'd add is that the FTE count really depends on how you configure the policies from day one. If you just ingest everything on default settings, you're right - it's a full-time job. But we learned to be ruthless with suppression rules and tuning alert severities for our specific context. Even then, it's still a major weekly effort for at least one engineer to review, not a set-and-forget thing.
It's like having a super-sensitive smoke alarm. You either spend time teaching it what's actually smoke, or you spend all day responding to burnt toast.
