Hi everyone! 👋 I've been lurking here for a bit while we evaluate some new firewall options at my company. This is probably a bit of a hot take, but I'm genuinely wondering about something.
We're a small remote team, and we're looking at moving to a next-gen firewall. The sales reps keep pushing their official training courses *hard*. They're not cheap! I've been reading through the admin guides and online docs for a couple of the big vendors, and honestly... they seem pretty comprehensive? Like, if you can follow a recipe, you can follow a configuration guide.
Maybe it's because I come from a project management background where we live in Notion and Asana docs, but I'm used to learning tools by just diving into the documentation and trying things in a sandbox. Is the training really that much better? What are you actually getting for that money that the docs and a few community forum posts can't give you?
I'm sure I'm missing something, especially around more advanced stuff like HA design or complex rulesets. But for a basic to intermediate setup, it feels like the training is an upsell for hand-holding.
Thx!
