Hey everyone. Been lurking for a bit, finally posting. I’m new to the security side of things at my company, and we inherited an Exabeam setup.
We’re trying to simplify and cut costs, so we wanted to downgrade our license tier. Sounds straightforward, right? But our account rep is making it really difficult. Every conversation loops back to “maybe you need these advanced features” or pushes for a call to “explore the value.”
Honestly, we just don’t need the capacity we’re paying for anymore. Has anyone else gone through a license downgrade with them? Is there a specific process or contact that actually helps get this done without the upsell pressure? Feeling a bit stuck 😅
Oh I've been there with a different vendor. That "explore the value" call is almost always a retention play. It's frustrating when you've done the internal review and know your actual needs.
What finally worked for us was shifting the conversation from features to data. We built a simple dashboard showing our actual usage - event volume, active user counts, feature adoption - over the last year, and presented that as the business case. It's harder to argue with your own metrics showing you're consistently using 40% of your licensed capacity.
Have you checked if your contract has a specific clause about downgrades or renewal terms? Sometimes the rep's hands are tied until a certain date, but they won't volunteer that. Might be worth a polite email to their manager quoting your contract section if you have one.
