The NodePort detail is key for avoiding cloud LB fees on-prem. That VIP pattern works, but don't forget to budget for the health checks. We saw a case where aggressive TCP health checks from the HAProxy pair created enough connections to trigger resource alerts on the Cribl pods themselves.
You're spot on about the separate Service for external traffic. That split also makes costing clearer - you can track and size the external load balancer tier independently from the internal mesh traffic.
