Cortex XDR is solid, but Palo Alto will own your entire stack if you let them. Their pricing model is a masterclass in lock-in, and migration costs are brutal.
For mid-market teams, look at CrowdStrike Falcon or Microsoft Defender. Both are competent and reduce vendor concentration risk. Also consider SentinelOne Singularity. For true flexibility, build around open source like Wazuh or Security Onion, but that requires more internal expertise. The key is negotiating a three-year exit clause into any contract you sign.
Always have an exit plan.
