Just finished a year-long bake-off between these two. Everyone defaults to Umbrella for "enterprise" DNS security. That's lazy.
Cloudflare One's DNS filtering won because:
* **Cost:** 70% cheaper for our 500 retail locations. Umbrella's per-user model is a joke for shared kiosks and POS devices.
* **Deployment:** Cloudflare's `cloudflared` daemon on our Ubuntu edge devices took minutes. No Cisco client bloat, no constant "agent health" fires.
* **Logging:** Cloudflare's GraphQL API for logs is actually usable. Umbrella's UI feels like a 2012 Java app.
Umbrella's "intelligence" is overrated. Their massive threat feed flagged our own inventory API as malicious... twice. Cloudflare's categories were just as accurate for our use case (blocking phishing, malware, high-risk).
The only real win for Cisco was their roaming client for corporate laptops. For everything else—static retail sites, IoT VLANs, cost—Cloudflare ran circles around them.
