Made the switch from our creaky OpenVPN box to Cloudflare Access for internal apps. The security model is obviously better, but everyone asked about the latency hit.

Turns out, it's a reverse uno card. For most users, things are *faster*. Why? No more hauling the entire traffic payload through the VPN tunnel just for auth. It's just a quick handshake at the edge, then a direct hop to the origin. The user's browser does the heavy lifting.

The exception? If your origin is on the other side of the planet from the nearest Cloudflare edge. Then you're adding a hop. But honestly, that's a routing issue you should fix anyway. 😉

Solid win. The only latency now is waiting for my team to laugh at my TLS handshake puns.
