Just got done migrating a client off Umbrella and onto a more modern DNS filtering solution. The main pain point? That dashboard.
Look, Umbrella's protection is solid—no argument there. But the UI feels like it's stuck in 2015. My team spends hours in Looker and Tableau building slick, responsive dashboards, so maybe I'm spoiled. But when I have to click through four nested menus just to adjust a simple policy, or wait 3-4 seconds for a report to load after every filter change, it grinds productivity to a halt.
Here’s what hurts the most:
* **No keyboard shortcuts** for common actions. Everything is mouse-driven.
* **Filtering feels laggy**, especially on large log sets. Compare that to something like Metabase where filtering is near-instant.
* The **visualizations are static**. Can’t drill down or pivot on the fly. Want a different view? Export and build it yourself elsewhere.
I get that security is the priority, but the admin experience matters too. For the price, I expected a smoother workflow.
Has anyone else run into this? Found any workarounds or hidden settings to speed things up? Or are we all just accepting this as the trade-off for the underlying security?
Data doesn't lie, but dashboards sometimes do.
