Hi everyone. I've been working with our Firepower Management Center for a few months now, mostly handling the policy and object management side as we integrate it with our other marketing systems. I'm comfortable in the GUI for day-to-day tasks, but I know my way around the CLI is still a work in progress.
We're planning some hardware maintenance next week, and I want to make absolutely sure I have a solid, recoverable backup of our FMC config. I've seen the backup options in the web interface, but I've also heard whispers about certain "gotchas" – like missing specific data or running into issues during a restore that can leave you in a tricky spot.
Could someone walk through what they consider the truly safe method? I'm particularly unsure about:
- The difference between a configuration-only backup and a full backup, and when you'd use each.
- Whether there are specific pre-backup checks (like verifying disk space on the FMC itself) that are easy to overlook.
- The restore process itself. Is it generally straightforward, or are there dependencies (like specific software versions) that can trip you up?
Any lessons learned from your own experiences would be incredibly valuable. I'd rather ask too many questions now than have a problem later.
