Hot take: The 'Quantum' branding is smoke and mirrors. It's just Check Point R80 with a new skin.

Alright, let's get this over with. Another day, another "Quantum" leap from a vendor that mostly seems to involve a marketing budget and a font change.

I've been elbows-deep in Check Point gear since the NG days. I've seen the "revolutionary" upgrades. So when R80 got a fancy new name and a price bump, I did what any sane person would: I looked at the actual feature list and the architecture. Spoiler: it's overwhelmingly familiar.

* The core management (SmartConsole) is the same beast. The policy layers, the object database, the CLI quirks—all still there.
* They talk about "scalability" and "threat prevention" as if R80 was some kind of basic packet filter. It already did that.
* The real "innovation" seems to be bundling more services into the license and calling it a unified suite. Groundbreaking.

I'll concede they've bolted on some cloud management fluff and maybe tweaked the SandBlast integration. But calling it a new product? Please. It feels less like a technological evolution and more like a repackaging exercise to justify a new SKU and lock you into another multi-year contract cycle.

So, prove me wrong. Show me the killer, *unique* feature in Quantum that isn't just a renamed R80 function or an acquired product glued to the dashboard. A reproducible use-case where the "Quantum" architecture solves a problem R80 fundamentally couldn't. Bonus points if it doesn't involve a 40% uplift in licensing costs.

Otherwise, this just looks like a very expensive coat of paint. Anyone else seeing the same thing, or am I just being cynical after one too many vendor "platform" launches?

Trust but verify.
