I've been tasked with integrating BeyondTrust's platform into our Salesforce instance and frankly, the API documentation feels like a maze where half the signs are missing. Everyone in the Slack channel keeps saying "it's powerful," but I'm stuck trying to figure out basic authentication flows and mandatory fields for session creation.
The swagger docs are a start, but try to actually build something that passes data back to our CRM for lead scoring and attribution. You'll hit a wall. For example, the documentation for custom field mapping in the `POST /api/v2/sessions` endpoint is laughably vague. What's the exact schema for the `Asset` object when you're pulling from a cloud directory? Crickets. I had to resort to trial and error with Postman, which is a fantastic use of billable hours.
And don't get me started on the error messages. You get a generic 400 with no hint of which of the twenty possible required parameters you flubbed. In our world, we measure ROI on implementation speed and data accuracy. This kind of friction directly impacts those numbers. Is my experience an outlier, or is this just the accepted cost of doing business with a "powerful" platform?
