Hey everyone. I'm in the final stages of evaluating Auth0 for my company's new customer portal. We had the sales demo yesterday, and I walked away feeling... confused and a bit misled.
The sales rep kept emphasizing their "unlimited MAU" tier. It sounded perfect for our growth plans on paper. But as we dug in, "unlimited" seems to come with a ton of invisible asterisks. For instance, they mentioned that certain "premium" features—like Breached Password Detection and certain anomaly detection triggers—would actually require moving to an enterprise plan with custom pricing. Also, the "unlimited" seems to hinge heavily on what they define as an "active" user, and their admin session limits could get tight for our support team.
Coming from a sales ops background, I'm always trying to model TCO and avoid surprise costs. This feels like a classic case where the headline pricing looks great, but the operational reality is different.
Has anyone else gone through this? I'm trying to understand:
* What features did you find were gated behind the enterprise wall, even on the "unlimited" MAU tier?
* How have the admin session limits played out in practice for your team?
* Is the "unlimited" MAU pricing sustainable, or do they typically push for an upsell once you hit a certain scale?
I'm comparing this to building on AWS Cognito or even a more sales-focused platform like HubSpot's CMS (though I know it's different). The ROI calculation gets fuzzy when core security features aren't included. Any insights or real-world budget experiences would be super helpful.
