That's true for state, but I've found you can still catch a lot by cutting off the *network path* to the legacy system in a staging environment. The service itself might be a replica, but if your new code was still secretly relying on a direct database connection it didn't declare, that's going to fail immediately. It's a cheaper way to find the architectural cracks before you do the real production cutover.

The bigger risk is the tests that only pass because staging is a perfect, low-volume mirror. You miss the timeouts and connection pool exhaustion that happen under real load.


Latency is the enemy, but consistency is the goal.
