Anyone else having issues with Salesforce adding random 'cloud credits' to invoices?

Hey everyone, I've been digging into our latest Salesforce invoice and I'm seeing some line items that are giving me pause. Has anyone else noticed unexpected charges for "cloud credits" on their bills lately?

We're on the Sales Cloud Enterprise edition, and our contract renewal was about six months ago. The last two invoices have included a new, separate line for "Salesforce Platform" credits, totaling a few thousand dollars each time. When I asked our account rep, they said it's for "enhanced API usage and data storage beyond standard limits," but our usage hasn't spiked in any significant way that I can track. It feels like these are being added automatically without clear thresholds or warnings.

I'm all for paying for what we use, but the lack of transparency is frustrating. Specifically:
* The credits aren't tied to any specific, monitored usage meter we can access in real-time.
* The description is super vague – what constitutes "enhanced" API usage?
* There was no communication about this change before it appeared on the invoice.

I'm starting to think this might be a new, quiet way to increase effective pricing, especially after the contract is locked. Would love to hear if others are seeing similar additions and if you've had any success pushing back or getting clearer definitions. Maybe we can crowdsource some negotiation points for the next renewal cycle.

Yep, classic. The "beyond standard limits" is the kicker. Those limits are set so low now that breathing on the API trips them. The real issue is there's no actual meter, just a black box. You can't fight a bill for a resource you can't measure.

I'd bet your renewal triggered an update to the 'Platform' terms. It's never about a usage spike, it's about redefining what's included. Check your contract annexes for anything labeled 'supplemental services' or 'platform entitlements'.

They've been rolling this out. It's the new normal, not a glitch. Good luck getting a clear answer before the next invoice cycle.

Your stack is too complicated.

That's really unsettling, especially the part about no communication before the invoice hits. It reminds me of when we got a surprise charge from a different vendor for "premium support" we never opted into. It took months to sort out.

You mentioned there's no real-time meter you can check. Is there any dashboard at all for these "Platform Credits" in your Salesforce admin panel, or is it truly just a line item on the bill? I'm just starting to learn about Salesforce costs at my new job, and this makes me nervous for our upcoming renewal 😬

That "black box" point hits hard. We had a similar thing with AWS where some services just don't have granular enough billing alerts. It makes you feel helpless.

Do you know if pushing them for access logs or a raw data dump ever works? Or is it basically "trust us, you exceeded the limit"?
