Hey everyone! 👋 I know this is a bit outside our usual cloud cost chats, but I’m deep in a project at work that’s hitting both my cost-optimization and compliance interests. We’re evaluating a CRM migration for our patient outreach and management system, and **HIPAA compliance is the non-negotiable table stake.**

I’m looking for real migration stories from healthcare, telehealth, or health-tech folks. We’re weighing options like Salesforce Health Cloud, Microsoft Dynamics 365, and some newer players like Nimble. The budget forecasts are… intense, especially when you factor in the BAAs (Business Associate Agreements) and the required infrastructure lockdown.

I’d love to hear your step-by-step experiences, especially:
* **Data mapping nightmares:** How did you handle migrating protected health information (PHI) fields? Any unexpected pitfalls?
* **Downtime & cutover:** What was your actual downtime window, and how did you communicate it to clinical staff?
* **What broke:** Be honest—what integrations or workflows failed post-migration?
* **Cost surprises:** Beyond licensing, what were the hidden costs? (e.g., increased cloud storage costs for audit logs, mandatory encryption services, specialized consulting)

For example, in our preliminary Azure-based scenario, enabling all the required encryption and compliance features for Dynamics 365 added about **22%** to our initial estimate. That’s the kind of real number that changes the business case.

What do you wish you had known before signing that new contract?
