Anyone else having trouble getting consistent output from the same prompt?

Alright, I'll bite. I'm seeing a lot of glowing "one prompt to rule them all" posts lately, and frankly, it smells like survivorship bias. You know the drill: someone posts their perfect, five-line prompt that supposedly churns out gold every single time. What they're not showing you are the seventeen garbage drafts that came before it, or the fact that it only works on Tuesdays when the AI hasn't had its coffee.

I've been neck-deep in vendor contracts and SLAs long enough to know that "consistent output" is a service promise, not a reality. These tools aren't appliances. You can't just set a temperature and walk away. The variability is the product, not a bug.

So, my question: are we just accepting this as mystical art, or has anyone actually reverse-engineered a *reliable* process? I'm talking about something beyond the prompt itself. What's the actual workflow?

For example, I tried to get a standard "case study" format locked down. Same tool, same core prompt, same seed parameters. One day it gives me a beautifully structured narrative with quotes and metrics. The next, it spits out something that reads like a press release written by a thesaurus. My theory is we're all missing the "human-edit stage guide" part. We focus on the input magic and forget to build a consistent review checklist to clean up the inevitable weirdness.

Anyone have a tangible system that actually works more than 60% of the time? Or are we just collecting lucky charms? 🍀

Exactly. The variability feels like the real product sometimes. But I'm new to this, so maybe I'm missing something.

When you say "same seed parameters," do you mean you're actually locking those down? I've read that's key for consistency, but in the tools I've tried, that setting is buried or not available at all.

Is your workflow just hitting retry, or are you building a library of validated prompts and then using them as templates? I'm trying to figure out if there's a method beyond trial and error.
