* **Bonsai:** This has been a strong frontrunner for me. It's beautifully designed and covers everything from proposals and contracts (with e-sign) to time tracking and invoicing. Their "Unified Payments" system is a big win, letting clients pay via card or ACH. The banking feature is also intriguing. The pricing is straightforward, but it can feel a bit pricey if you're just starting out. Use-case: Perfect for the freelancer who wants an all-in-one, professional suite and is willing to pay for the convenience and polish.
* **HoneyBook:** I've found this leans more towards creative entrepreneurs and wedding photographers, but its functionality is solid for any service-based freelancer. The client portal and automated workflows for inquiries and follow-ups are standout features. It feels more "CRM-like" than some others. Use-case: Great for freelancers who have a high-touch, consultative sales process and need to automate lead nurturing and onboarding.
* **Wise (formerly TransferWise) for Payments + Separate Tools:** This is the "build-your-own-stack" route. I use Wise's borderless account to get low-fee international payments from clients, but then I pair it with other tools like:
