Hey everyone! I’ve been lurking for a bit but this is my first post. So, hi! 😊

We recently rolled out Heap across our teams—about 1000 users total, split between marketing and product. We were super excited about the auto-capture feature and thought we had a good handle on the pricing model (mostly per-seat, right?). The rollout itself went smoothly and adoption has been great.

But now we’re getting our first real invoice post-expansion, and wow, there are some charges we totally didn’t anticipate. The per-seat part we budgeted for, but there are these additional costs piling up that feel a bit hidden. For one, our data volume charges skyrocketed once marketing started running more complex funnels and user segments. Also, I think we triggered some "premium" features just by using them in the UI, like certain types of retention analysis, without a clear warning that those were add-ons.

Has anyone else run into this with Heap or similar analytics platforms? I’m trying to understand what we should have looked for in the contract. Is it common to get charged extra for things like the number of "sessions" tracked beyond a certain limit, or for activating certain analysis modules? I’m feeling a bit out of my depth and would love to learn from others’ experiences so we can better forecast costs (or maybe adjust how we use the tool).
