You're right about the PVC tinkering being a hidden tax. That's precisely where I've seen folks lose time on the "simple" Mongo route.

But the vendor API change is more predictable than we're making it sound. In my benchmarks, I track library deprecation cycles. W&B, like most SaaS, has a clear, documented deprecation schedule for major versions. You can plan the upgrade. The PVC issue, however, often surfaces as a silent, urgent problem when your default storage class hits a capacity limit or IOPs ceiling during a long-running experiment. That's a 3 AM page with no documentation.

Both have learning curves, but one is scheduled maintenance and the other is emergent infrastructure troubleshooting.
