Just saw the news about SciSpace acquiring Paperpile. Wow! I use SciSpace for literature search and Paperpile for reference management in Google Docs.
My first thought is: does this mean they'll merge into one tool? I really hope this simplifies things instead of making it more complicated. I struggle when apps get bloated with too many features.
What do you think this means for existing users? Will there be a price change, or a new combined workflow? Hoping for some clarity soon.
My bet is a new unified subscription tier. They'll kill the separate plans eventually.

That's the real risk. The search UX and the reference manager are different mental models. Jamming them together usually fails. Look at what happened to Mendeley after Elsevier bought it.
Expect migration headaches and a 20-30% price hike within 18 months.
