Here’s my approach:
* **Skip the chat for edits.** Instead of typing "remove the umms and ahhs," I just use the **Trim Silence** feature. It's instant and predictable.
* **For B-Roll or image generation,** I use the dedicated buttons in the timeline. I already have the specific clip selected, so I get a context-aware result without a paragraph of description.
* **My only text input is for titles/subtitles.** And even then, I type exactly what I want, not a prompt for the AI to interpret.
Turning off the chat forces you to learn the actual software. You start using the robust tools they've built right into the interface, which are far more reliable than hoping the AI understands "make it more dynamic."
The chat feels like a demo feature—great for newcomers to see the "wow" factor. But for repeated, professional use, it becomes a crutch that slows you down. Try closing it for a week. You might find, like I did, that your real productivity comes from the other 90% of Runway's capabilities.
