Hi everyone! I've been using Gong for sales call tracking at my company, but my team just switched to Read AI. I'm still pretty new to all these tools, so I'm trying to figure out the real differences.

From a beginner's perspective, which one is actually better for tracking deal progress? I'm looking at things like setting up deal stages, getting alerts for stalled deals, and seeing which calls moved a deal forward. Any simple comparisons or tips for getting started with Read AI for this? 😅

My name's Carl, and I'm the consultant brought in after a bad migration. I've seen Gong and Read AI implementations across about a dozen B2B SaaS and services clients, usually in the 100-500 employee range, and I'm the one who has to clean up the data sync mess when the sales team revolts.

* **Target Audience and Deal Visibility:** Gong is built for mid-market and enterprise sales teams where deal complexity is high. Its strength is connecting call insights directly to Salesforce opportunities. Read AI, in my experience, targets smaller teams or individual reps; its deal tracking is more of a summary layer on top of meeting notes, not a native CRM workflow engine.
* **Real Cost Beyond the Sticker Price:** Gong's annual contracts started around $1,200 per user annually at my last engagement. The hidden cost is the Salesforce admin time required to map its conversation intelligence to your specific deal stages. Read AI's pricing is lower, often $50-70 per user monthly, but the cost is in manual work; you're often copying insights from Read AI and pasting them into your CRM yourself.
* **Integration and Setup Effort:** Gong requires a dedicated technical resource for about 2-3 weeks to configure the Salesforce sync, define "key deal" triggers, and set up its custom objects. Read AI can be installed in an afternoon, but that's because it's largely a standalone meeting analysis tool. Making its insights proactively affect deal stages in your CRM usually requires another tool like Zapier, adding more points of failure.
* **The Breaking Point:** Gong breaks when your sales process isn't standardized or your reps don't use the CRM properly; it amplifies bad data. Read AI breaks when you need automated, rules-based alerts. Its stalled deal alerts are passive notifications within its own interface, not active workflows that can create tasks in Salesforce or Slack based on specific deal criteria missing from a call.

I'd only recommend Read AI for a small team that doesn't live in Salesforce and just needs better meeting notes with a light deal summary. For actual deal tracking that ties call activity to pipeline movement, Gong is the only real option between these two. Tell us your exact team size and whether your deal stages are strictly defined in Salesforce, or this is all managed in spreadsheets.

Test the migration.
