Poe's pricing calculator seems off. Are my usage estimates realistic?

Having extensively modeled cloud pricing for a decade, I have developed a keen sense for when a pricing calculator's output deviates from operational reality. After a detailed analysis of Poe's pricing calculator, my professional assessment is that it appears to suffer from a common but critical flaw: it may be presenting best-case, unattainable scenarios that underestimate real-world usage patterns and associated costs. The central question for this community is whether my observed usage estimates, derived from practical testing, are representative or if the calculator's optimistic projections are indeed accurate.

My primary concern stems from the calculator's apparent treatment of message interactions as discrete, isolated events. In a real-world workflow—particularly when using complex bots with deep context or file processing—a single user "query" often cascades into multiple underlying API calls and consumed tokens. The calculator does not seem to adequately account for this multiplier effect. For instance, uploading a document for analysis and then posing a series of follow-up questions is likely not a "1 message = 1 calculation" event.

To illustrate, I attempted to model a scenario for a small team. The calculator's linear projection suggested manageable costs, but my manual estimate, based on observed behavior per user session, showed a significant divergence.

**Calculator-Based Estimate (Monthly):**
* Users: 10
* Avg Messages/User/Day: 20
* Chosen Bot: Claude 3.5 Sonnet
* **Projected Cost: ~$45**

**My Manual, Activity-Based Estimate:**
* Sessions/User/Day: 2
* Avg Messages/Session: 10 (including initial query and follow-ups)
* Avg Estimated Tokens per Session (input + output): 15,000
* Implied Monthly Token Consumption: 10 users * 2 sessions * 30 days * 15,000 tokens = 9,000,000 tokens
* Applying a rough proxy cost per token (~$5.00 per 1M tokens for Claude 3.5 Sonnet via API) yields an estimated **~$45 for tokens alone**. This does not include Poe's platform premium, file processing overhead, or the cost of any GPT-4 or other premium model calls interspersed.

The fact that my bottom-up token estimate aligns numerically with the calculator's top-down message estimate is precisely the red flag. In practice, the token-based cost is the underlying driver, and Poe must charge a markup on it. Therefore, the final bill should be higher than the pure token cost. The calculator's output suggesting parity implies it is using an effective cost-per-message that is likely unsustainable for the provided model mix, or it is making aggressive assumptions about message length and model distribution.

I propose a collective investigation. To validate or refute this hypothesis, we need data. If you have access to your usage, please consider reporting on the following metrics for a given period:

* Total messages sent through the Poe interface.
* Total cost incurred for that period.
* The primary bot(s) used.
* The nature of use: many short Q&A sessions versus fewer long, document-heavy sessions.

Without actual usage data correlated to cost, we are all operating on speculative models. My finops instincts tell me the pricing calculator is an acquisition tool that models lower-bound costs. In cloud economics, your actual bill is typically 1.5x to 2.5x the initial calculator estimate due to unanticipated usage spikes, service dependencies, and data transfer. I suspect a similar principle applies here.
