Hey everyone! 👋 I was just exploring the latest Poe update and noticed something really intriguing in the settings of a few bots I manage. There's a new toggle for something called **"Bot Memory"** in the configuration panel!
I got super excited because, as someone who lives in the analytics and customer journey space, the idea of a bot retaining context across different conversations could be a game-changer for creating more cohesive, personalized user experiences. It could fundamentally change how we think about bot-led workflows and support threads.
But here’s my big question—and I’ve been poking around trying to figure it out: **Is this memory persistent for a user across all their chats, or is it just confined to a single chat session?**
For example, if I tell a travel-planning bot in Chat #1 that I’m allergic to shellfish and prefer window seats, will it remember that when I start a brand new Chat #2 a week later to plan another trip? Or does that "memory" reset as soon as the first chat window closes?
I tried to test it myself, but my results were a bit inconclusive. I’m also thinking through the implications:
* **For User Experience:** Persistent memory would allow for amazing ongoing relationship building. A user wouldn't have to repeat their preferences or context every single time.
* **For Analytics & Measurement:** This would affect how we track user journeys and attribute successes. A conversion event in Chat #5 might be deeply influenced by foundational context established in Chat #1.
* **For Bot Configuration:** How do we, as bot creators, "feed" and structure this memory? Is it based on:
* Key user declarations we program it to flag?
* The entire conversation history?
* Something else entirely?
Has anyone else dug into this yet? I’d love to compare notes. If you’ve done any testing or seen official documentation I might have missed, please share your findings!
What’s your understanding of how it works, and what have you observed? Let’s document this together!
