Hey everyone, I've been digging into the new NotebookLM pricing tiers announced last week, and I’ve got to say, the shift feels pretty significant for small teams. I was hoping we could compare notes.
The old model was simpler, with a generous free tier and a single, affordable Pro option. Now, with the introduction of the "Team" plan, the cost scales per user, and the feature partitioning means some of the more advanced collaboration tools are locked behind that tier. For my team of five researchers, jumping to the Team plan would increase our monthly cost by over 4x compared to what we were paying individually on Pro.
I understand they need to monetize and that infrastructure for AI features isn't cheap. The new AI model access and expanded notebook sizes are great. But the per-user pricing, combined with moving features like shared workspaces and advanced citations up-tier, creates a real pinch point. It feels like the jump from "Individual Pro" to "Team" is where the value proposition gets murky for teams that are collaborating but don't have enterprise-level budgets.
Am I missing something here? Has anyone else run the numbers for their group? Perhaps there are workflow workarounds, or maybe the new Team features justify the cost for your use case. I’d love to hear a vendor-neutral take on this.
