Complete newbie here - can I use this for a one-off project, or is it subscription-only?

Straight to the point: you can pay for a month and then cancel. That's the official line. The real question is whether it's a practical pain in the neck for a single project.

Murf operates on a classic SaaS subscription model. There is no "pay once for a single render" option. You buy a monthly seat, generate your audio, and then have to remember to cancel before the next billing cycle. If your project is simple and you can do it in an afternoon, you're effectively paying a full month's fee for a few hours of access.

The bigger gotcha for a one-off is the credit system. Even on the "Basic" plan you're limited by "voice minutes per user per month." Run out on your big render? You either wait for the next cycle or upgrade. For a newbie, estimating how many minutes of audio your script will produce is another hurdle.

Check the export formats too. Need a specific bitrate or WAV files? That might be locked behind a higher tier. So your one-off project cost could creep up fast.

If you're technically inclined, for a genuine one-off, I'd look at open-source TTS engines you can run locally (like Piper or Coqui TTS). Steeper learning curve, but no recurring charge and no usage limits. For Murf, you're renting the tool, not buying the output.

Just my 2 cents
