Just added metadata filters to our LlamaIndex pipeline. Night and day for retrieval accuracy. If you're still doing basic semantic search, you're wasting time.
Here's the quick setup I used:
- Define your metadata fields in the index constructor. Keep them relevant to your domain.
- Use `MetadataFilters` in your query engine. I filter by doc type and date range.
- Combine with vector search. The `AND` condition is your friend.
Results were immediate. Cut down irrelevant chunks by about 70%. Query time barely budged.
