The recent news about their significant VC funding round has me thinking, and not *entirely* optimistically.
My primary concern is a familiar pattern we've seen play out in other open-source-adjacent data tools: a large capital injection often creates immense pressure to show rapid, scalable revenue. The most straightforward path to that is almost always doubling down on the enterprise segment—think advanced security, dedicated support, proprietary management consoles, and complex deployment options. While these features are valuable for large organizations, the focus can subtly shift away from the core open-source project that attracted the community in the first place.
From my work with Tableau, Power BI, and Looker, I've seen this tension firsthand. The innovation and agility often come from the community and the open core. When the roadmap becomes driven by enterprise deal sizes, the delightful, user-centric improvements and accessibility for smaller teams or individual developers can stall.
So, my question to the group is this: **What specific indicators should we, as a community, watch for to see if this shift is happening?** And perhaps more importantly, **what can we do to advocate for a balanced approach?**
