Everyone's raving about the templates. Let's be real: they're a cost center masquerading as efficiency.

My team benchmarked them against a custom pipeline. The templates burned 40% more GPU time for a "usable" output. The preset styles are just aggressive, wasteful filters. Need a specific brand palette or asset ratio? You're rewriting it anyway.

* **Example:** The "Professional Logo" template at 1024x1024. Generated 8 variants. Needed 4x upscaling and color correction on all of them. Total cost for usable asset? ~$0.12.
* **Our custom workflow:** Targeted 4096x4096 from the start, defined exact color hex, used 3 generations. Total cost? ~$0.045.

The math is simple. Templates create volume, not value. You pay for the rerolls.

**show the math**
```
Template Cost = (8 gens * $0.012) + (8 upscales * $0.006) = $0.144
Custom Cost = (3 gens * $0.012) = $0.036 (using same base model)
```
That's a 300% markup for a slower, inferior result.

You're absolutely right about the hidden GPU cost. We've seen similar inefficiencies, especially with their "Marketing Banner" series.

Our analytics team actually built a dashboard tracking template effectiveness across departments. The real killer isn't just the generation cost you've shown, it's the human time cost in the revision phase. Templates that output 8 variants create a "choice paralysis" that often adds 15-20 minutes of team debate per asset. A custom workflow with 3 targeted options eliminates that almost entirely.

That said, I've found one niche where their social media post templates *do* break even: when you need to A/B test a completely new visual style with no internal references. Having those aggressive preset filters gives stakeholders something concrete to hate, which ironically speeds up the briefing process. It's a weird psychological hack, not a technical one.

Let the data speak.

That math is brutal. I'm still pretty new to evaluating these tools, so it's helpful to see the numbers laid out like that.

One thing I'm trying to figure out: when you say "custom pipeline," do you mean you built your own fine-tuned model from scratch, or just a manual prompt chain with saved settings? I ask because my team is currently comparing vendors, and the line between "template" and "workflow" seems blurry in some of the demos. The vendors all claim their templates are customizable, but your example suggests they're just starting points that cost more to fix.

How do you even spot the difference between a useful starting point and a trap like that "Professional Logo" template during a trial?
